TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja has urged  UNCTAD to offer targeted support for enterprises owned by youth and women in Africa.

Hon Sakaja noted that any country’s claim to economic prosperity is tainted wherever youth and women find it increasingly difficult to take part in business.

“Young people today, world over, have continued to lead the way in innovation and are more connected than ever before. We must provide more opportunities for them and assist them to access capital, mentoring, training and access to global markets,” Hon Sakaja said.

The nominated MP was speaking at Strathmore University during a welcome cocktail for more than 600 Youth delegates attending the UNCTAD Summit.

“Here in Kenya, Africa’s Silicon Savannah, we are keen in increasing the participation of youth and women in business through the setting aside of 30% of procurement opportunities for them. We can do more in ensuring that this is fully implemented by National and County Governments,” Hon Sakaja said.

Hon Sakaja also invited the delegates to enjoy the sights and sounds of Nairobi during their stay.

“There are many places I would like you to see in Nairobi when you have time. I wish you came when I was already Governor. But it is only one year and 20 days from now and I will still remember this day, ” he said.

The evening was filled with song and dance as Hon Sakaja joined the Strathmore University students leadership in teaching the delegates a local dance by Kenyan band Sauti Sol – Sura yako.
