Technical institutions to have uniform curriculum

Technical training institutions will now have a uniform curriculum as the government shifts focus to reforming and equipping these institutions.

The Kenya Literature Bureau held a consultative meeting with education stakeholders in Nakuru on areas to be incorporated in the soon to be launched technical training curriculum.

On Friday, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a directive banning the registration of new universities as part of the government’s plan to improve the quality of education in higher education as well as boost technical training institutions, stakeholders in the education sector met in Nakuru for a one day seminar.

The seminar brought together heads of various technical training institutions, and publishers with a view of developing a uniform curriculum.

Stakeholders pointed out technical institutions have been neglected lauding efforts to address the gap and ensure those who do not make it to university get the benefit of technical training skills.

The books will be available online to ensure access to all. Nakuru County executive member in charge of education Francis Mathea hailed the revival of technical institutions which are now 30 within the county from the initial 12.
