President Uhuru Kenyatta has eulogized the late Dr. Bethuel Mareka Gecaga as a true patriot who was one of the architects of building Kenya’s economy soon after independence.
Dr. Gecaga, 92, passed on at a Nairobi hospital Wednesday. President Kenyatta said Dr. Gecaga was among the iconic figures who worked to develop and grow the country’s economy.
The President recalled Dr Gecaga’s exemplary service to the nation, including when he served as Chairman of British American Tobacco, Nation Newspapers, and national Carrier, Kenya Airways.
The late Dr. Gecaga also served as the Chairman of University of Nairobi, and as a trustee of the National Famine Relief Fund and the National Fund for the Disabled.
President Kenyatta said despite his achievements, the late Gecaga remained accessible and humble, offering words of wisdom and leadership skills to those who needed them.
