Tourism players want completion of Malindi airport hastened

Players in the tourism sector have appealed to the national government to speed up completion of the Malindi International Airport to ease travel by tourists.

A Watamu based investor has earmarked 200 million shillings in a charter to airlift tourists from the Moi international Airport Mombasa to Malindi.

Ravi Rohra says the charter flight will reduce the hours wasted on the road and give their clients ample time to enjoy their holidays.

A recent case in which tourists had to travel by road from South Coast to catch flights at Moi International Airport in Mombasa has acted as a push factor for investors to into the lucrative but expensive air travel sector.

Traffic jam in Mombasa as well as delays at the Likoni Crossing has spelt misery to tourists with some of them missing connecting flights or spending several hours in traffic.

Connection through Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) according to players in the tourism sector, has been tedious and cumbersome. Some tourists have had to endure long hours traveling by road from Nairobi to Mombasa.

Players in the tourism industry are appealing to the national government to speed up completion of the construction of Malindi International Airport so as to accommodate direct flights from Europe to the resort city.
