Kenya qualifies for Wheelchair Tennis World Team Cup

The Kenya women wheelchair tennis team qualified for the BNP Paribas wheelchair tennis World  team cup after trouncing perennial rivals Tanzania in a tense final as the curtains came down on the

Phoebe Masika saw off Lucy Shirima 6-2 6-3 to win the first singles match while Jane Ndenga trounced Selemani Rehema 7-5 7-5 to hand Kenya the victory.

Enroute to the finals the national women’s team topped pool ‘B’ that had Morocco and Cameroon to advance.

In the third place playoff matches Egypt men humbled Cameroon 2-1 while their ladies counterparts defeated Morocco by the same margin.

Seven countries took part in the African qualifiers including hosts Kenya, powerhouse Egypt, Morocco, Tanzania and Nigeria among others.

The BNP Paribas World team Cup is slated for May in Italy.
