The Kenya Rugby Union-KRU, goes to polls Wednesday to elect new office bearers with the incumbent chairman Richard Omwela facing a strong opposition against former vice Chairman Sasha Mutai and KRU director Rajinder Sembi.

Omwela was elected for the third time in 2015 after beating Charles Ouko following Mwangi Muthee’s resignation in December 2014.

Fifty-five votes are up for grabs with 26 coming from nationwide league, 24 from Kenya Cup clubs, and four from the board.

Omwela has opted to maintain a low profile ahead of the polls while Sembi has campaigned on a platform of change by interacting more with players and clubs.

Mutai said he will revive the defunct annual Rugby Super Series 15s tournament and restore the fading glamour of the Safari 7s if elected.

The 15s Super Series was discontinued after sponsors Bamburi Cement pulled out in 2014.
