Lotto Foundation unveils sponsorship to Athletic Kenya

The Athletics Kenya has received a major boost of  Kshs 12 Million from Lotto Foundation in support of East Africa Cross country Championship scheduled to take place on 26th March in Kampala.

Chairperson of Athletics Kenya Mr. Jackson Tuwei confirmed that Lotto had already deposited 10M in their account and has promised to deposit the remaining Ksh 2M before the start of the national championship.

“We are grateful to Lotto Foundation for this sponsorship and we promise transparent and accountable use of the funds.  I encourage young athletes to join in the competition and help nature their talents, “he added.

Tuwei who was speaking at Riadha house during the unveiling of the sponsorship confirmed that coming in Lotto into the sponsorship will really boost in the championships which has not been doing well financially in the past.

Lotto Foundation Chairman, Brian Waluchio said that the sponsorship will help prepare athletes in a better way and as well act as a catalyst for other foundation of the like-mind.

Paul Mutwii, Athletics Kenya Senior Vice President and Director of Competitions said that competition and trial event will take place at on 18th February 2017 at Uhuru Gardens where teams that will represent Kenya in Kampala will be selected.

Teams from 12 regions will compete in Junior and  male 6km, junior and female 8 Km and  Senior male  and female  10 km .

The  new entry  into the championships will be mixed relays represented by 2 men and 2 ladies where the first six across each line will be selected.

Mutwii said that the training of the selected teams will take place at Kigari Teachers College in Embu from today 2nd February until 22nd March.
