Sportpesa All stars soccer team started their training Thursday morning in preparation for the face-off with English Premier League side Hull City FC on the 27th of this month at KCOM stadium in Hull City, UK.

The side is coached by Stanley Okumbi. The players were selected last year from Sportpesa Premier League teams by Hull City coaches.

Okumbi said some players from Ulinzi Stars and Tusker FC are yet to join the camp as they are currently preparing for their return leg of the continental fixtures this weekend against Libya and Mauritius sides respectively.

Okumbi who is also Harambee Stars tactician, said the Sportpesa Stars have high chances of being drafted into national team’s squad for future assignments.

The team which will be the first Kenyan team to play against an English club is scheduled to play a friendly match against Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani this Sunday before leaving for UK.

Sportpesa signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Hull City FC, last year. As part of the sponsorship, the English side agreed to play friendly matches with a Kenyan team to enhance the country’s football development and are scheduled for a return match in Nairobi later this year.

The friendly is part of SportPesa’s goal to improve football standards in the country ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup to be held in Qatar. The Sportpesa Stars versus Hull City game will be live on KBC Channel One.
