Tae-kwon-do Association unveils world championship squad

The Kenya Taekwondo association has unveiled a provisional national junior taekwondo squad to prepare to represent the country in the World Taekwondo championship later this year in Netherlands.

The team was selected during national junior’s trials last weekend at Makini school Nairobi.

Bridget Syombua of Machakos Academy who won a gold medal in the six years girls category during the trials after beating Melisa Nga’ng’a of Aga Khan academy has been included in the under six years old girls team alongside Nikita Mwendwa of Oakland school and Kiota school’s Nazareen Muliro.

The boys’ under six years old category consists of Andrew Gakunga of Anthena School, Aidan Muiga of Strathmore ,Mwathi Gicheru and Farahan Athmani from Jaffer school while the boys’ under 7 years old brings together Benedict Sango, Wesley Mandela, Christopher Njogu and Abdi Karim.

The squad which consists of over 70 taekwondo junior players will report to a non residential training camp on 18th this month at pent house gym in Nairobi before the association names the squad that will travel to Netherlands for the championship.
