Police have arrested a key terror suspect with links to the Islamic state group.

In a statement, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said the suspect,  Ali Hussein Ali alias The Trusted One has links with ISIS, Al Shabaab and the Magafe Human Smuggling Network in Libya.

The suspect was arrested together with two accomplices, Ibrahim Abasheikh Mukhtar and Abdi Mohamed Yusuf, during a joint operation carried out by security agents with assistance from foreign security agencies.

Boinnet said the suspect came to Kenya in 2010 under the pretext of being a tourist.

He later moved to South Africa, Sudan and finally Tripoli in Libya where he was recruited to join ISIS. Ali then returned to the country in November 2016 where he became a key agent of ISIS and the Magafe network.

He used Eastleigh and Malindi as recruiting grounds. Mukhtar on the other hand used his Watamu house to accommodate recruits and terrorists, willing to be smuggled to Libya to join ISIS.

Meanwhile, twelve key drug barons arrested Thursday night during a major security operation conducted by police in Mombasa are to be arraigned in court Friday.

Boinnet told the media that those arrested include four foreigners from Italy and Mauritius. He said among the eight Kenyans arrested is a man known as Bosire whose search had been intensified since last week when Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa gave police an ultimatum to nab him.

Kenya has lately sustained a crackdown on drug trafficking activities since the January extradition of the notorious Akasha brothers– Baktash and Ibrahim –to the United States where they are facing charges alongside Vicky Goswami, an Indian, and Hussein Gulam, a Pakistani national.
