Ruto woos western voters

Deputy President William Ruto has asked western Kenya residents to shun Opposition parties for promoting politics of division and hatred and instead embrace Jubilee Party, which was committed to transforming the country.
Ruto said Opposition has nothing new to offer residents of western Kenya and urged them to support Jubilee.
Addressing wananchi at Amukura grounds in Teso South Constituency in Busia County on Friday, the Deputy President said Jubilee has changed the country’s politics from that of rhetoric’s to focus on development.
“Jubilee has changed politics of this country from that of rhetoric to development. We cannot transform the lives of Kenyans through politics of hatred and division,” said Ruto.
The Deputy President who was accompanied by Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, MPs Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu) and Mary Emase (Teso South) told residents in the region not to gamble with their votes by supporting Opposition parties.
“It has become clear that the Opposition leaders have offered nothing to Kenyans and we should not expect anything in terms of development from them,” said Ruto.
He said those in the opposition had served in the previous governments for more than 20 years but did nothing for Kenyans.
“The truth is that those in the Opposition had served the country in senior positions and failed to solve problems facing Kenyans including those in western Kenya,” added Ruto.
The Deputy President said Opposition union was bound to fail because it was formed out of greed for power.
“Opposition leaders are not going anywhere because they have no plan and agenda for Kenyans and every one of them wants to be at the top,” said Ruto.
The Deputy President who also laid a foundation stone for the construction of Amukura Teachers Training College said Jubilee in less than four years has connected 55,000 households up from 14,000 in 2013.
He said Shs. 9.6million has been set aside to connect 370 households in the area adding that those residents near transformers will have their houses connected top electricity free of charge.
Ruto said Busia County has also benefitted from Shs 800million that has been used to expand and equip Busia and Kocholia hospitals to the status of referral to ease the problem of seeking medical services from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret and Kenyatta National Hospital.
The Deputy President also addressed wananchi in Moding primary school in Teso North and Kapsokwony both in Bungoma and Matunda market in Kakamega County.
Wamalwa said Jubilee was focused on service delivery unlike the Opposition, which was focusing its energies on divisive politics.
He told western Kenya residents not to be missed to support political parties, which had no agenda for the country.
“As people of western we should not be misled to support parties which end up being in the opposition. Let’s support Jubilee for peace, development and prosperity,” said Wamalwa.
He said the government of Turkey will fund a water project in Mt Elgon to a tune of Shs 50billion to provide water to the people in the region including Teso sub-county.
The legislators hit out at the Opposition for criticizing Jubilee projects without telling Kenyans what they did to improve their lives when they served in government.
“Leaders are elected to serve and not to just make noise. Opposition leaders should tell Kenyans what they did for them when they were in power instead of criticizing jubilee projects,” said Ichungwa.
Ms Emase said residents in the region have decided to support Jubilee because it was committed to the development of all Kenyans.
“We are making a strong signal to Kenyans that people of western Kenya are ready to work with Jubilee like the rest of the country,’ said Ms Emase.
“This time round western region will not be left behind when Jubilee Party forms the Government after the August elections,” she added.
She said Opposition leaders were not interested in serving Kenyans but creating positions for themselves.
